Sony Pictures Releasing International (SRI) has challenged BuenaVista International's claim that Pirates of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest set a new industry opening record inSpain last weekend.

According to figures the BVI sequel grossed Euros 8,598,915 includingpreviews on the Thursday night [Aug 10] before official release.

SPRI executives said The Da Vinci Code opened in Spain in May on Euros 8,781,413without previews, which is the equivalent of approximately $230,000 more thanthe Pirates launch.
