Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions (SPWA) has named Adrian Alperovich (pictured left) senior executive vice president and general manager and hired Lara Thompson (pictured centre) as senior vice president of acquisitions.

Alperovich will oversee daily operations of the acquisitions team, which has hitherto operated under the auspices of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (SPHE).

Alperovich will coordinate acquisitions within Sony Pictures Entertainment and scout for local foreign productions.

He will work closely with senior vice president of business affairs Pamela Kunath, who will continue to report to SPWA president Peter Schlessel (pictured right) on acquisitions matters.

Alperovich also reports to Schlessel and previously served as senior executive vice president of international for SPHE, where he oversaw international business for the division and presided over the launch of DVD and Blu-ray.

Thompson was formerly vice president of acquisitions for London-based Momentum Pictures. She assumes responsibility for managing the Los Angeles-based acquisitions team and will source and assess third-party projects for acquisition.

At Momentum Thompson was responsible for all acquisitions across Europe and secured deals on Downfall, Grudge 2, Crank, Broken Flowers and Miss Potter. Prior to Momentum, she worked at Working Title.

In other changes, Scott Shooman has been promoted from director of acquisitions for SPHE to executive director of acquisitions; and Lia Buman, a former director of development for Schlessel's production outfit, has joined as director of acquisitions. Prior to the appointment she worked as a consultant to Mandate Pictures and Ghost House Pictures.

Fritz Friedman will manage publicity and corporate communication for the acquisitions team as senior vice president of worldwide publicity, reporting to Schlessel.
