Sony's comedy RVpulled up to the number one spot on an estimated $16.4m as the top 12 picturesgrossed $90.7m to surpass the same weekend of 2005 by 12%.

Universal's9/11 docudrama United 93 openedto a wave of exceptional reviews in provisional second place on $11.6m, justahead of Buena Vista's gymnastics comedy Stick It on $11.3m.

Meanwhile Lionsgate's spelling bee drama Akeelah And The Bee launched in eighth place on a weaker thanexpected $6.3m.

Barry Sonnenfeld's RV, which stars Robin Williams, Cheryl Hines and Jeff Daniels andelicited below-par reviews, averaged on $4,506 on 3,639 screens.

United 93,Paul Greengrass' improvised account of passenger heroism aboard one of the fourhijacked planes on 9/11, averaged $6,465 on 1,795 screens. Sidney KimmelEntertainment co-financed the picture with Working Title, StudioCanal andUniversal Pictures.

Stick It starsJeff Bridges and Missy Peregrym in a comedy about high school gymnastics. It averaged$5,522 on 2,038 screens. Jessica Bendinger directed and Spyglass Entertainmentserved as executive producer.

Akeelah And The Bee opened to very good reviews but only averaged $2,847 on 2,195screens. Keke Palmer, Laurence Fishburne and Angela Bassett star and DougAtchison directed.

Overall box office has been in a healthy state over the pastseveral weeks, and to add further cheer, annual attendance to date is tracking 4%ahead of last year.

The good news can only continue next weekend with the wide releaseof Paramount's action sequel Mission: Impossible III starring Tom Cruise and Philip SeymourHoffman. Its only competition is New Line's children's film Hoot starring and Luke Wilson.
