Production has begun on Bob Potter And Paul Doyle's footballdocumentary World Cup 2006: Dreams Of Glory, which Andrew Herwitz 's New York-basedFilm Sales Company will be representing for worldwide sales at the Cannesmarket.

Herwitz has already sold UK rights to Revolver and is close toannouncing other key sales on the project, which over the course of the nextyear will follow eight professional players from around the world - includingEngland's Wayne Rooney and Brazil's Diego - as their national teams bid forglory in next summer's finals in Germany, which run from Jun 9-Jul 9.

Each profiled player is regarded as a potential tournament starand the filmmakers will track the fortunes of the individuals and teams as theytrain and take part in qualifying competitions to reach the World Cup.

Barring injury, Diego is a certainty to appear in the tournamentas Brazil automatically qualify as 2002 winners. Other featured players in theproject include Argentina's Carlos Tevez and Portugal's Christiano Ronaldo.

Potter and Doyle are producing the project in association with NewYork-based Bombo Sports & Entertainment, while Herwitz is serving asexecutive producer and the Film Sales Company raised equity financing on theproject.

As previouslyreported here (Apr 12), Film Sales Co recently picked up worldwide rights toJames Burke's directorial debut drama Aurora Borealis, starring Donald Sutherland and JulietteLewis, which premieres this week at the Tribeca Film Festival.
