Strand Releasing has acquired all US rights to Pablo Trapero's Brazil-Argentina-South Korea co-production Lion's Den, which played in competition at Cannes and has been selected as Argentina's foreign language Oscar submission.

The drama follows a college student who is imprisoned after being convicted for murder and discovers she is pregnant while incarcerated. Strand will release the film next year.

Matanza Cine, Cineclick Asia (Fantom) and Patagonik Film collaborated on the feature, which shot in Buenos Aires and was made in association with Videofilms with the support of INCAA-Programma Ibermedia.

Trapero and Fine Cut CEO Youngjoo Suh produced and Martina Gusman served as executive producer. The film was co-produced by Walter Salles. Strand Releasing's co-president Jon Gerrans brokered the deal with Suh.

Trapero's previous directorial efforts include Born And Bred, Rolling Family and El Bonarense.
