Strand Releasing has picked up all North American rights from Colifilms Diffusion to Jacques Nolot's Before I Forget (Avant Qur J'Oublie), which gets it world premiere here on Thursday.
This is Strand's second acquisition of a Nolot film after Le Chat A Deux Tetes, which was released in the US as Porn Theater in 2003.
Nolot plays an ageing writer who battles demons and writer's block while searching for his true self. Strand plans a mid-2008 release.
Strand intends to release Before I Forget in mid 2008.
Strand co-president Jon Gerrans negotiated the deal with and Colifilms Diffusion consultant Claude Nouchi.
'We're thrilled to be working with both Mr. Nolot and Mr. Nouchi,' said Gerrans.
'This is a daring, edgy film that is reminiscent of French New Wave films that pushes the envelope in terms of content and form,' Gerrans said.
Strand released Eytan Fox's The Bubble last week and its slate includes Aki Kaurismaki's Lights In The Dusk, Andre Techine's Witnesses, and the Berlinale hit Irina Palm starring Marianne Faithfull.
