Summit Entertainment has acquired the film rights to Virgin Comics' graphic novel The Leaves and hired the property's author Kevin J Walsh to adapt the screenplay.

Virgin Comics founder, chief creative officer and editor-in-chief Gotham Chopra will produce with company CEO Sharad Devarajan.

The Leaves is an action thriller about a New York doctor who travels to a friend's funeral in Bombay where a fortune teller informs the doctor he is the agent of the Apocalypse.

Summit's president of production Erik Feig will oversee for the studio and said: 'It seems as if Summit is fated to work on this movie with Gotham and Virgin Comics and never have we seen a more innovative and visual setting for a whipsmart action thriller.'

'Mining the great mysteries and mythologies of India and nurturing them into fresh films for the world to see has become what we're known for at Virgin Comics and in Summit and Kevin, we could not find better partners to take the next leap,' Chopra added.

Walsh is represented by CAA and attorney Carlos Goodman of Bloom, Hergott, Diemer, Rosenthal & LaViolette.
