The police action thriller S.W.A.T. opened in 17 territories on 3,575 screensat the weekend and grossed $13.5m to raise its international running total to$53.4m.

It ranked number two in most markets behind Finding Nemo and Columbia TriStar Film DistributorsInternational (CTFDI) executives say it is well placed to consolidate itsposition during the upcoming holiday season in Europe.

S.W.A.T.took $3m from 500 prints in the UK and placed third. Germany produced $2.5mfrom 614, Spain opened on $1.8m from 410 and France grossed $1.4m from 412 foran unconfirmed second or third place finish.

There were plenty of other decent bows and highlights includedHolland, which grossed $525,000 from 85, and Belgium $375,000 from 80.

The film hasnine more territories to go including Russia and Sweden and CTFDI sources sayit has a good chance of passing $100m.
