Sundance Institute and the Maryland Filmmakers Fellowship have announced [April 21] that this year's Maryland Filmmakers Fellowship goes to John Morgan and Meg LeFauve and their project The Cavanaughs.

Presented in partnership with the Maryland Film Office, the annual fellowship provides Morgan and LeFauve with a $10,000 grant to help with advanced development and pre-production.

The Institute's Feature Film Programme director Michelle Satter said the grant brought the film-makers 'one step closer to sharing with audiences their voices and bringing this film to life.'

The Cavanaughs charts the fallout on a deeply evangelical family after the mother rejects motherhood, falls in love with a woman and disavows her faith.

Morgan and LeFauve developed the project at last year's Sundance Directors and Screenwriters Labs and are now working with producer Julie Lynn, who produced The Jane Austen Book Club, to get it made.
