The US premiere of Avi Nesher's The Secrets will open the 23rd annual Israel Film Festival, which is set to run from June 12-26 in Los Angeles, before moving to New York and Miami at the end of the year.

The event, which is the largest showcase of Israeli cinema in the US, will screen close to 60 Israeli films in this 60th anniversary year of the birth of Israel.

The Spotlight premiere screening is Ayelet Menahemi's Noodle and the roster includes Eran Kolirin's The Band's Visit, Joseph Cedar's Beaufort, Tzahi Grad's Foul Gesture and Erez Tadmor and Guy Netiv's Strangers.

ICM CEO Jeff Berg, Kirk Douglas, Israeli film industry founding father Menahem Golan Carl Reiner and Rob Reiner will each receive awards honouring their contribution to Israeli cinema.

The line-up features a retrospective of classic Israeli films including screenings of all seven Israeli nominees for the foreign language Oscar.
