Academy Award-winning actress Charlize Theron is to produce and star in a remake of Korean director Park Chan-wook's hit thriller Sympathy For Lady Vengeance.

'We are still in the very preliminary stages. We're working with Ms. Theron and her production company to make the remake happen,' said Chong Choe, director of international strategy at CJ Entertainment, the distributor of Sympathy For Lady Vengeance.

Starring Lee Young-ae, the former Venice competitor is the last in Park's Vengeance trilogy.

Theron is also credited as a producer on Monster, the film for which she won a best actress Oscar.

CJ has an office in LA with an aim to make inroads into the US market. The company recently saw success when they invested in August Rush.
