TLA Releasing has acquired US DVD/VHS rights at AFM to HectorCarre's psychological thriller La Promesa.

The picture stars Carmen Maura as an abused wife who flees herhusband to start a new life as a nanny in what may be a haunted house.

Maura is best known as the star of a number of classic PedroAlmodovar films like Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown, Law OfDesire, Matador, and DarkHabits, among others.

TLA acquired the rights from Madrid-based KWA and its presidentKevin Williams. TLA director of acquisitions Richard Wolff led negotiations forthe company.

"To get Carmen Maura's latest film is a major thrill for us,"Wolff said "For those Americanswho know her only from the comedies of Almodovar, La Promesa is going to be a shock - and arevelation."

TLA will releaseLa Promesa on itsInternational Film Festival DVD/VHS label in 2005.
