The Toronto International Film Festival has appointed two new programmers for its 27th outing and promoted press office veteran Gabrielle Free to replace outgoing director of media and public relations Nuria Bronfman.

Joining the programming team are Diana Sanchez, who will select Spanish-language and Latin American films, and Jane Schoettle, who will include international programming along with her duties as director of TIFF's children's film festival Sprockets.

Barcelona-based Sanchez's first task will be to programme a tribute in memory of Ramiro Puerta, to whom she was an assistant and researcher. The filmmaker and veteran festival programmer died in January. The tribute will feature his short films and highlights from his programming choices during his eleven years at the festival.
