The Film Policy Review report could be the blueprint for the next decade or so of British film. So what about that cover photo!?


You can’t tell a book by its cover — and let’s hope that’s the case with the new UK Film Policy Review document.

The report, more than six months in the making, was published on Monday to general industry acclaim for the words within.

But Screen has already heard several snarky comments from industryites about the cover of the booklet. One underlying point of the panel’s approach was audience engagement, and indeed the report is titled “A Future For British Film: It begins with the audience…”

And, uh, the photo shows a half-empty auditorium with some incredibly bored looking audience members. And one in the middle isn’t even looking at the screen. Surely a packed house of engaged cinemagoers would have been more what the hopes of the panel reflect.
