Two Greek documentaries, Men At Sea by Katerina Patroni and Are There Any Lions In Greece by Irina Boiko shared the top prize in the first competitive event for Greek films at the fifth Thessaloniki Documentary Film Festival (Feb 28-March 9).

In the festival's international section, Dutch production Ford Transit, directed by Hany Abu Asad, won the FIPRESCI award, while in the Greek section the FIPRESCI prize went to Kyriakos Katzourakis' The Way To The West.

Nine Good Teeth directed by the American Alex Halpern, a family saga through the eyes of the director's 102-year old grandmother, won the Dewars Audience Award.

Running in parallel to the festival for the third year, the Pitching Forum of the European Documentary Network (EDN) attracted some 24 young and experienced producers from across Europe to participate in a five-day workshop and training programme.

The forum culminated in a pitching session for documentary projects in front of a panel of European commissioning editors from a wide selection of countries.
