New Line's The Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers has achieved the unique distinction ofbecoming the only film playing solely in open air theatres to break into theSwiss top five.

The second part of Peter Jackson's trilogy adaptation grossed$63,897 (SFR 87,156) on eight screens, climbing 141% and rising from 16th place to fourth inits 33rd week on release.

It averaged $7,987 - the highest in the top 20 - andraised its Swiss running total to $9.5m.

The film began playing in three outdoor theatres on Jul 27 and isnow playing at eight such venues, with six in the German-speaking region of the country.

Among other New Line International films, Final Destination 2 opened at number two in New Zealand,grossing $99,222 from 35 screens with a $2,835 average. In terms of US dollars,the opening was 175% better than the 2000 original.

The spring break 'reality' film The Real Cancun opened in France on $252,493 from 131screens and averaged $1,927.
