UCLA student Austin Formato has won the first prize of $15,000 in the
53rd annual Samuel Goldwyn Writing Awards for his project Self Help.

Robyn Paris took the $7,500 second prize for Odd Man Out and J J
Nelson and Richard Rapoza tied for the $4,000 third prize for Out Of
Road and The Hole In The Brain of Phineas Cage. Suzie Bohannon earned
an honourable mention for Spin Cycle. All prize-winners attend UCLA.

This year's Samuel Goldwyn Writing Awards judges were Sundance Film
Festival director Geoff Gilmore, Fox Atomic production president
Debbie Liebling and actress-producer Marlee Matlin.

The Samuel Goldwyn Writing Awards were founded by Samuel Goldwyn Sr in
1955 to encourage young writers. Previous winners include Allison
Anders, Francis Ford Coppola, Pamela Gray, Colin Higgins, Jonathan
Kellerman and Eric Roth.
