Robert Beeson and Pam Engel's new UK distribution company New Wave Films has acquired Cannes Competition entry 24 City directed by Jia Zhangke.
The film is sold by MK2. Beeson and Engel set up New Wave earlier this year after being long-time art-house distributors at Artificial Eye.
'We are very pleased to be able to release the new film from a director whose first three films we distributed originally, and to renew a relationship with MK2 that stretches back over 20 years,' said Beeson and Engel.
Joan Chen, Lu Liping and Zhao Tao star. Set in contemporary Chengdu, the film is about factory workers, former executives and yuppies in a changing city.
