Screening planned for Aug 27 in Campo S. Polo.

The pre-opening of Venice’s 70th film festival will open with the world premiere of the new restored version of Francesco Rosi’s Hands Over The City (Le mani sulla citta).

The screening will be held August 27 in the arena of Campo S. Polo. The Cineteca nazionale di Roma has restored the work, which won Venice’s Golden Lion 50 years ago.

The film stars Rod Steiger as a shrewd real-estate developer in Naples dealing with politics and power.

Last year, Venice awarded Rosi the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement.
