Oscar nominees Mike Leigh and Imelda Staunton were bothwinners at the 2004 Evening Standard British Film Awards on Sunday evening.

Leigh's Vera Drakewas named best film and lead actress Staunton was named best actress.

Otherwinners included Paddy Considine, who won the best actor prize for his role in DeadMan's Shoes.

Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason was named Evening Standard Readers' Film of 2004 atthe central London ceremony.

The Alexander Walker Special Award went to Tim Bevan andEric Fellner, the co-chairmen of Working Title films.
