Award-winning documentary film-maker Peter Gilbert will direct With All Deliberate Speed (working title) for Discovery Communications' first theatrical release under the Discovery Docs banner.The film will be produced as part of a series of projects in association with Manhattan-based independent studio CameraPlanet and will mark the 50th anniversary of the US Supreme Court's groundbreaking 1954 civil rights decision, Brown vs Board of Education.Through eye-witness testimony and interviews with key players, the documentary will trace the efforts to overturn racial segregation in America's public schools and will premiere on May 14, three days before the historic anniversary.Discovery Networks, US, president Billy Campbell said: "It offers everything one expects from a great Discovery project - history: passion, drama and compelling personal stories about an important and timeless topic that touches us all."Campbell added that the company had a number of theatrical projects in the pipeline."We think that this anniversary is critical cross point in history, and we're anxious to present a film that is both timely and significant," Stephen Carlis, co-president of CameraPlanet, said."Discovery's commitment to the form of documentary is made clear with its decision to greenlight a project of this scope."Gilbert's credits include producer on the acclaimed Hoop Dreams, which won the Sundance Audience Award in 1994, and Lost Boys Of Sudan.
