Fox International's sci-fi sequel X2: X-Men United reached $150m in international ticket sales over the weekend.

The comic book adaptation grossed $18.5m in its third weekend on release and was the second biggest international film of the weekend behind Warner Bros' The Matrix Reloaded.

X2 fared best in those territories where The Matrix Reloaded has not yet been released. It remained number one in the UK, dropping 32% on $3.3m from 464 sites for a $26.5m running total.

In Mexico it grossed $1.4m, dropping 18% for an $11.2m cumulative score. The film stayed top in Spain, where it dropped 44% and added $980,000 for $8.7m.

In Japan, the only major territory where X2 has not reached number one, it dropped a mere 13% and added $1.4m on 381 screens for a $10.3m running total.

The film opened in Indonesia and grossed $392,000 on 63 screens. It was Fox's second and the industry's fourth biggest opening ever.
