The AmericanFilm Institute (AFI) announced its top pictures of the year yesterday (12) inwhat the group called the only form of national recognition that honours a project'sentire cast and crew.

The 10 picturesin alphabetical order are: The Aviator, Collateral, Eternal Sunshine Of TheSpotless Mind, Friday Night Lights, The Incredibles, Kinsey, Maria Full OfGrace, Million Dollar Baby, Sideways, and Spider-Man 2.

The pictureswill be honoured at a luncheon on Jan 14 in Los Angeles, when the juries'rationales for each selection will be revealed.

AFI's 13-strong motion picture jury comprises:Roger Ebert (AFI motion pictures jury chair), Chicago Sun-Times/Ebert &Roeper; David Ansen, Newsweek; Jeanine Basinger, Wesleyan University and AFITrustee Emeritus; Leo Braudy, University of Southern California; JamesCromwell, actor; Naomi Foner, writer/producer; Tom Pollock, producer and memberof the AFI board of trustees; Robert G Rehme, producer and member of AFI boardof trustees; Richard Schickel, Time Magazine; Lisa Schwarzbaum, EntertainmentWeekly; Joan Micklin Silver, writer/director; Michael Wood, Princeton University;and Janet Yang, producer.

"As the Instituterecognises and celebrates excellence across the century, these honourees willbe part of the record that documents America's enduring cultural legacy,"AFI's director and chief executive officer Jean Picker Firstenberg said in astatement.
