Sony's action sequel Anacondas scored a huge resultin India at the weekend as Columbia TriStar Film Distributors International(CTFDI) released it day-and-date with the US in several markets.

Anacondas opened number one in thesub-continent on an estimated $1m on 275 prints to record the fifth biggestdebut by a Hollywood release in the territory.

The 1997 launch of Anaconda went out on 50 prints andthat picture remains the ninth biggest Hollywood release of all time in India.

Anacondas grossed $1m on 400 in Mexico,where it dethroned Collateral as the top title and opened roughly 53%bigger than the original.

Elsewhere Spider-Man 2 added $3.5m on 2,800 prints in57 territories for an international cumulative total of $368.2m, passing thedomestic gross by roughly $400,000 on Aug 29.

The picture opens in its final major market of Italy on Sept16.
