Andres Veiel's Black Box BRD has been named as the winner of this year's European Documentary Award - Prix Arte which will be presented at the forthcoming European Film Awards in Berlin on December 1.

The decision by the Documentary Jury of producer-filmmaker Jens Meurer, director Cinzia Torrini and Warsaw Film Festival director Stefan Laudyn was announced at this year's Forum of European Cinema in Strasbourg from a total of six nominations.

The other films up for consideration were Emir Kusturica's Super 8 Stories, Susanna Helke and Virpi Suutari's Joutilat (The Idle Ones), Emmanuel Finkiel's Casting, Alexander Sokurov's Elegia Dorogi (Elegy Of A Voyage) and Knut Erik Jensen's Heftig & Begeistret (Cool & Crazy).

Black Box BRD, which has registered almost 100,000 admissions in Germany so far, will be participating in the Joris Ivens competition at the forthcoming International Documentary Film Festival (IDFA) in Amsterdam (November 22 - December 2).
