Golden Bear-winning UK director Michael Winterbottom will be the subject of this year's retrospective at the British independent film festival "britspotting" in Berlin from April 24-30.

The six-title homage will include Butterfly Kiss, Jude, Welcome To Sarajevo and Wonderland, while his 24 Hour Party People will be shown in the festival's competition section of 21 new UK features and six short film programmes.

The 2003 competition lineup of "britspotting", which was launched in 2000 to help more British films make their way into German cinemas, will include such films as Wilma Smith's Black Coffee, Kim Hopkins' Wanted, Charles Harris' Paradise Grove, Isaac Julien's BaadAsssss Cinema, Maeve Murphy's Silent Grace, Sandra Goldbacher's Me Without You and Dominic Savage's Out Of Control.

Meanwhile, following the resounding success of Raindance Film Festival director Elliot Grove's "lo-to-no budget" seminar and pitching session last year, Grove will return this year with a seminar on the art and craft of scriptwriting, and the fringe events will include workshops on digital filmmaking with producer Carl Schoenfeld (My Brother Tom) and animation with animator-director Ste McGregor.
