Hans-Christian Schmid's Berlinale 2003 competition entry Distant Lights (Lichter) was the big winner at this year's German Film Critics Awards, winning the prizes in the categories of Best Feature Film, Best Actor and Best Editing.

The Awards were presented during a gala ceremony at the Max Ophuels Prize Film Festival in Saarbruecken on 29 January (Thursday).

Best Actress - Marie Baeumer (Angst)

Best Cinematography - Isabelle Casez (7 Brueder)
Best Editing - Hansjoerg Weissbrich (Distant Lights)
Best Film Score - Niki Reiser (The Flying Classroom)
Best Documentary - Damen Und Herren Ab 65 by Lilo Mangelsdorff
Best Short - Ich Und Das Universum by Hajo Schomerus
Best Experimental Film - Spring by Oliver Held

Two weeks ago, Distant Lights won the Euros 200,000 Producers Award and Screenplay Award at the annual Bavarian Film Awards.
