Dougray Scott has joined thecast of The Mermaids Singing,Robin Swicord's adaptation of Lisa Carey's family epic that already stars thepowerhouse female trio of Jessica Lange, Neve Campbell and Evan Rachel Wood.

Scott will play an estrangedfather who is forced to come to terms with his past or lose his teenagedaughter. He will next be seen in Walter Salles' upcoming English languageadaptation of Dark Water.

"My daughters broughtDougray Scott to my attention when he played the prince in Ever After with Drew Barrymore - and we've have been fans eversince," Swicord said.

The Mermaids Singing is being co-produced by New Films International, E3Entertainment and Samuelson Productions.

J Todd Harris and Tim Dalyoptioned the novel and are serving as producers. New Films' Nesim Hason, SezinSonar-Hason, and Ron Gell are serving as executive producers with LarryWeinberg and Don Schneider of E3 and Marc and Peter Samuelson of SamuelsonProductions.

Craig Roth, who served asDaly-Harris' vice-president at the time of acquisition and was instrumental inthe film's development, will co-produce. Deborah Aquila is casting the US roleswhile Celestia Fox handles the UK.

The story chronicles threegenerations of women who each struggle with first loves, fatal decisions andthe sins of their mothers.
