Ariel Veneziano’s sales company and Joe Pia’s Salt Lake City-based media fund have jointly acquired international rights to Spike Lee’s drama and will show to buyers at private screenings in Cannes.

Red Hook Summeris the latest installment in Lee’s Chronicles Of Brooklyn series, which includes She’s Gotta Have It and Do The Right Thing and centres on a teenager sent to spend the summer in New York with the grandfather he has never met.

The film premiered in Sundance and Variance Films acquired US theatrical rights and will release on Aug 10. Lee co-wrote the screenplay with James McBride.

“This is a powerful and relevant film from one of the most influential filmmakers of our time and reminds us of some of Spike’s iconic movies we all know and love,” Veneziano and Pia said. “We are proud to be looking after this great movie which fits right into our joint acquisitions strategy.”

Veneziano and Pia negotiated the deal with CAA and Artie Indursky and Robert Strent of Grubman Indursky Shire & Meiselas, PC on behalf of Lee and 40 Acres And A Mule Filmworks.

Recreation and Incentive Capital previously signed a deal to partner on the international distribution of Incentive’s extensive library of more than 850 titles.
