Olivier Assayas’ biography of famed terrorist Ilich Ramierez Sanchez will feature out of competition.

Olivier Assayas’ highly-anticipated Carlos has been added to the lineup for the Cannes Film Festival in an out of competition screening slot. Festival organizers confirmed the addition to Screen on Monday.

Assayas’ biography of the famed terrorist Ilich Ramirez Sanchez is a five-and-a-half hour opus starring Edgar Ramirez, Julia Hummer and Alexander Beyer. StudioCanal is handling international sales.

Also new to the selection is 5 X Favela, an omnibus of five short films from young filmmakers hailing from Brazil’s favelas and trained by director Carlos Diegues. 

The film will have a berth in the special screenings section. The Favela directors are: Manaira Carneiro, Wagner Novais, Rodrigo Felha, Cacau Amaral, Luciano Vidigal, Cadu Barcelos and Luciana Bezerra.
