Billy Ray will direct the remake of Argentinian foreign-language Oscar winner The Secret In Their Eyes to star Chiwetel Ejiofor and Gwyneth Paltrow.

IM Global hits the Croisette with international sales rights to the remake, reconfigured as a revenge saga centering on a former MI-5 agent haunted by an unsolved case who discovers a shocking truth about past events. CAA arranged financing and represents US rights.

Mark Johnson and John Ufland will produce the thriller and Juan Jose Campanella, director of the original film, is on board as executive producer. Production will start in Boston this autumn.

IM Global president of production Matt Jackson, who negotiated the deals for Ejiofor and Paltrow with Ford, is also an executive producer.

“Billy has written a wonderfully intelligent, twisting screenplay and we’re lucky enough to have attached two world class acting talents at the top of their game for Secret,” said IM Global founder and CEO Stuart Ford. “We’re confident of bringing further great cast onboard as we move towards production.”

“The thought of combining the originality of the original film with the talent of Billy Ray and the support off IM Global is irresistible,” said Johnson.
