Docu Talents presenting in Karlovy Vary include homeless, Eugenics projects

Today in Karlovy Vary, the Docu Talents from the East presentation will include nine documentaries from Central and Eastern Europe in production or post-production.

All projects are planned for theatrical distribution from August 2012 through July 2013.

Organisers are KVIFF and Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival, and each will be a ten-minute presentation.

Presenting this year are:

Fortress (Pevnost) (Czech Republic) [pictured]
Director:  Klára Tasovská, Lukáš Kokeš
Producer:  Nutprodukce - Tomáš Hrubý, Pavla Kubečková
In post now, this film is about people living in the geo-political gap of the Pridniestrovian Moldavian Republic.

Eugenic Minds (Eugeniove) (Czech Republic-Slovak Republic)

In production now, the documentary is eugenics and the boundaries between science and pseudoscience in the present day, in the past and in the future.

Father (Tevas) (Lituania)

A film, now in post, about the famous Soviet ex-con Vidas Zenonas Antonovas, called the ‘Father of the Mafia,’ and his large family.

The Other Side Of Everything (Druga Strana Svega) (Serbia)

A family memoir and portrait of a disillusioned revolutionary struggling with the ghosts haunting Serbia’s present. In production now.

Albert Cinema (Poland)

Now in production, a documentary about homeless men who are making films.

Cain’s Children (Kain Gyermekei) (Hungary)

In Pre-production, a story about teenagers who have been sentenced to long prison sentences for murder. They were filmed in 1984 and again 27 years later after the fall of communism.

The Greatest Wish (Nejvetsi Prani) (Czech Republic)

Talking to people about their greatest wishes, following Jan Spata’s documentaries from 1964-1989 now taken up by his daughter Olga talking to a new generation.

Fragile Identity (Krehka Identita) (Slovakia-Czech Republic)
