Ben Wheatley’s Down Terrace wins best feature at 17th Raindance
Down Terrace was named Best UK Feature at the 17th Raindance Film Festival, which closed its 12-day event in London yesterday.
The comedy drama about a family of crooks is directed by UK film-maker Ben Wheatley.
The best international feature award went jointly to Patxi Amezcua’s Spanish thriller 25 Kilates and David Lee Miller’s coming of age comedy My Suicide, which was awarded the Crystal Bear at Berlin this year.
Tokachi Tsuchiya’s A Normal Life Please was named best documentary, while the best debut feature award went to Asiel Norton’s family drama Redland.
The best UK short award when to George Milton for Infidel and Brian Durnin’s Of Best Intentions picked up best international short. Colin, directed by Marc Price, was named best microbudget feature. The zombie horror was shot for just £45.
This year’s jury included Shifty actor Riz Ahmed, writer/director Armando Iannucci, film critic Peter Bradshaw, actress Kerry Fox and Christine Langan, creative director of BBC Films.
The festival, the UK’s largest independent film festival, opened on September 30 with a screening of the Sundance special jury prize winnerHumpday and closed on October 11 with Steven Soderbergh’s The Girlfriend Experience.
