The world premiere of Lionsgate and Marv Films’ Kick-Ass will open South By Southwest (SXSW) on March 12.

Director Matthew Vaughn and Jane Goldman adapted the action adventure from Mark Millar and John S Romita Jr’s comic book about a fanboy superhero who teams up with other like-minded vigilantes to challenge a crime boss.

Aaron Johnson, Chloe Grace Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Nicolas Cage and Mark Strong star. Lionsgate will release Kick-Ass nationwide on April 16

Festival organisers also announced five narrative and documentary world premieres: Cold Weather by Aaron Katz; Sebastian Gutierrez’s sequel to Women In Trouble, Elektra Luxx; Toni Myers’ IMAX feature Hubble 3D; Wes Orshoski’s Lemmy; and James Franco’s documentary Saturday Night.

The complete festival line-up will be announced in early February.
