Special Events lines up Andrew Jarecki’s The Jinx: The Life And Deaths Of Robert Durst, about the reclusive New York real estate scion, and Kevin Pollack’s Misery Loves Comedy featuring a who’s who of celebrity talking heads weighing in on the pursuit of comedy.

“Filmmakers in the Premieres and Documentary Premieres sections, many of whom are returning to the festival, do not shy away from controversial, challenging and provocative subject matter,” said Sundance Film Festival director John Cooper. “Their work enrages, engages and entertains audiences, shining a light on issues and people we thought we knew.”

“As artists continue to explore evolving forms of storytelling, this year’s new Special Events section allows us the space to showcase episodic content and live performance,” said director of programming Trevor Groth. “With this addition, the festival offers a more complete look at the creative opportunities for independent artists today.”

The announcement for the short film section will be made in due course.

Sundance is set to run from January 22-February 1.
