Berlin-based production outfit Box! Filmproduktion has struck output deals with theatrical distributor Tobis StudioCanal and Bavaria Media, and is to become a production partner of media venture capital company Producers' AG.

The deal with Tobis StudioCanal(TSC), which co-produced and distributed Box!'s first feature Edward Berger's Female2 Seeks Happyend, initially spans two years to co-develop German-language projects for co-production and distribution. In addition, TSC has the option to board projects developed by Box! outside the co-development agreement.

"The goal is to produce 1-2 German language features a year", Box! partner Philipp Homberg said. "Moreover, the deal is not aimed at low-budget arthouse pictures. We want to develop projects which will get a mainstream distribution".

The first project to come under this new arrangement with TSC will be the romantic comedy Adam Und Eva, which is set to be produced in Hamburg this year. Another feature with Woman2 director Edward Berger is slated for next year.

Meanwhile, the three-year output deal with Bavaria Media will cover an initial five German projects produced by Box! In addition, the sales company has indicated interest in co-developing and co-producing Box!'s first international project, Guinea Pigs by London-based director Mika Kallwass.

"The idea is that we want to work closer with certain producers, become involved in projects at an earlier stage and give our input on a consultative basis", said Michael Weber, Bavaria Media's managing director.

To date, Bavaria Film International has struck output deals with another three German production companies - MTM Medien und Television Muenchen, Olga Film and Indigo.

Meanwhile, the deal with Producers' AG will see the Potsdam-based group acquiring a 51% majority stake in Box! in stages to add to its existing portfolio of production outfits from Munich and Cologne.
