German regional public fund Filmboard Berlin-Brandenburg could get a 30% boost to its funding budget for 2003 following an announcement by the Berlin Senate that it intends to provide an additional Euros 2.5m for the subsidy body next year.

Assuming that the Land of Brandenburg follows suit, the Filmboard would then have Euros 20m at its disposal rather than the current Euros 15m - making it third biggest of the German regional film funders, behind Filmstiftung NRW and FFF Bayern's Euros 30m each.

The extra cash will allow chief executive Klaus Keil to cater for the many producers in the BB region who want to make films there. Since his funds were limited, many producers have had to look elsewhere, even setting up shop in other federal states to access funds from bodies like the Filmstiftung NRW in North Rhine Westphalia
