Reliance MediaWorks plans industry open house in Cannes

Reliance MediaWorks Ltd., the services company of the Reliance ADA group, will be in Cannes to host an open house each day for the industry.

Reliance MediaWorks Ltd., the services company of the Reliance ADA group, will be in Cannes to host an open house each day for the industry. Industry members can drop in any time to the Reliance office (Relais de la Reine, 42/43 La Croisette, Suite C-61) to learn more about the services offered by RMW. Special press and group demonstrations will be held Wednesday 3-5, Thursday 12-2, Friday 3-5, Saturday 3-5, Sunday 12-2, and Monday 12-2pm.

Anil Arjun, CEO of Reliance MediaWorks, tells Screen: “What we plan to do really do a preview show, is to show showcase of MediaWorks capabilities in the global space. We wanted to do an open house, encouraging the industry to interact with our team there.”

Some of the senior executives from RMW will be attending Cannes. Reliance the parent company has had a strong presence in Cannes in previous years, but this is the first year that MediaWorks has a presence this large.

The company has recently established its presence in the UK, after acquiring iLabs in January. That operation currently employs 20 people and has grown from one floor of its Poland Street offices to the entire building. The outfit has primarily done commercials and TV work so far, but Arjun says the plan is to now move into feature films as well.

Also, the company should establish a larger footprint in Europe in coming years. “What we’re doing is putting the blueprint in place [with the London office]. So we’ll focus on that for one or two years and then we can add other facilities.”

The company’s businesses include digital cinema services, film restoration and image enhancement, 2D to 3D conversion, film processing, digital intermediates, visual effects, digital mastering, studios, equipment rentals. The group also includes TV operations and India’s largest cinema chain.

RMW currently connects the US and India through a digital link that can transmit feature films from India to 188 US screens, and that will be expanded into Europe as well in coming years. “Our objective is to grow that into a global pipeline,” Arjun says.

In addition to its headquarters in India and the new London office, RMW also owns facilities in Los Angeles and San Francisco and has alliances with US-based In-Three and Japan’s Imagica.
