Japanese studio Toei has closed several deals on its big-budget war epic Admiral Yamamoto, including a sale to Germany’s Pandastorm Pictures.

The film has also gone to Showbox for the UK, IRIB for Iran, Cai Chan International for Taiwan and PT Amero Mitra Film for Indonesia.

Directed by Izuro Narushima (Midnight Eagle), the film tells the story of the naval commander who launched the attack against Pearl Harbour in World War II, despite his vehement opposition to the war.

Koji Yakusho, known to international audiences for his roles in Thirteen Assassins and Babel, plays the conflicted admiral. The cast also includes Hiroshi Tamaki, who starred in popular Japanese TV series Nodame Cantabile, and Teruyuki Kagawa (Tokyo Sonata).

Toei is also selling drama Hayabusa: The Long Voyage Home, starring Ken Watanabe, based on the true story of the team of Japanese scientists that helped bring the Hayabusa space capsule back to earth in 2010.
