Antony Root has been named head of industry sector for the RomaFictionFest, the annual showcase of Italian and international TV projects.

Root previously worked in the Drama Series and Serials Department of the BBC, and was formerly head of production for Working Title Television, president at Granada, MD of BAFTA/LA and senior vice-president of European production for Sony Pictures Television.

He takes charge of RomaFictionFest’s Market, now in its second year. The RomaFictionFest, now in its fourth year, will run July 5-10.

Early highlights announced from the programme include Edmund Coulthard’s John Lennon biopic Lennon: Naked, starring Christopher Eccleston as Lennon; and Rolling Stones documentary Stones In Exile. Both are BBC Worldwide projects.

The festival will also present documentary The Game Of Death (Le Jeu de la Mort) by Christophe Nick. This project, about a fake reality TV show that goes too far, is a Yami 2 production, distributed by Rezo Films, and broadcast by France Television.

The RomaFictionFest is organised by the Fondazione Roberto Rossellini Per l’Audiovisivo and promoted by the Regione Lazio, Associazione Produttori Televisivi, and the Chamber Of Commerce of Rome. Steve Della Casa is the artistic director and the event’s general manager is Michele Misuraca.
