EXCLUSIVE: Epic Pictures has taken on foreign sales rights to Sundance hit V/H/S.

The horror anthology is about a group of misfits hired to burglarise a house to find a rare VHS tape, only to find more found footage than they wanted to see.

The directors are Adam Wingard, Ti West, Glen McQuaid, David Bruckner, Joe Swanberg, and the Radio Silence collective.

Magnolia Pictures genre label, Magnet Releasing picked up US and Canadian rights during Sundance with an eye toward a fall theatrical release.

Rights to the UK are currently closing as well.

The film was notable at Sundance when an audience member fainted at a screening.

Producers are Gary Binkow, Roxanne Benjamin and Brad Miska.

Producer Binkow said: “We’re excited to have a young aggressive sales company on the VHS team and anxious to have the movie seen all over the world.”

Epic CEO Patrick Ewald added: “I have not experienced such an audience reaction to a movie since Paranormal Activity, Insidious, or The Blair Witch Project. The fact that we have six of the most popular horror directors in one movie is an incredible hook that will make this film one to remember. At EFM last year we had an incredible success launching Darren Lynn Bousman’s supernatural thriller, 11-11-11, so we are anticipating a great 2012 EFM with V/H/S.”

The film will also screen at SXSW in March.

Epic’s slate also includes new titles thriller The Aggression Scale, supernatural thriller Into The Dark and action western Yellow Rock. It is also showing footage from Vikingdom and Mega Spider.
