Glen Basner’s FilmNation Entertainment has closed key territories on the upcoming Salman Rushdie adaptation Midnight’s Children, led by deals with eOne in the UK and Metropolitan in France.
Production on Deepa Mehta’s hotly anticipated project got underway on Feb 6 and Basner (pictrured) and his team have licensed rights to: Germany (Telemünchen), Spain (DeA Planeta), Australia and New Zealand (Village Roadshow), Taiwan (SSG), South Korea (Unikorea), Singapore (Multivision) and Eastern Europe (EEAP).
Further deals closed in: Portugal (Lusomundo), Switzerland (Ascot Elite), Latin America (Sun Distribution), Hong Kong (WEG), Indonesia (PT Amero), Malaysia (WEG), Philippines (Multivision), Benelux (Paradiso), Greece (Odeon), Iceland (Sam Films) and Israel (Lev Films).
“I am thrilled so many distributors were as excited about Deepa’s film as we are,” Basner said. “With such distinctive source material in Deepa’s capable hands we anticipate a film as richly textured as India herself.”
David Hamilton is producing the epic tale of Indian independence and Echo Lake’s Doug Mankoff and Andrew Spaulding serve as executive producers alongside Blue Ice Entertainment’s Steven Silver and Neil Tabatznik.
FilmNation is also talking to buyers here on John Hillcoat’s Wettest County starring Shia LaBeouf, Gambit with Colin Firth and Cameron Diaz and The King’s Speech.
