Canadian distributor KinoSmith has acquired two titles out of Hot Docs on opening day, company fonder Rob Smith announced on Thursday [25].
Festival opener The Manor by Shawney Cohen centres on the filmmaker’s family, owners of a strip joint in Guelph, Ontario. KinoSmith has set a May 10 release date for Toronto followed by other markets.
Smith has also taken Gabriela Cowperthwaite’s Blackfish following a deal with Magnolia Pictures.
Blackfish will open on Jul 19 in Toronto at Tiff Bell Lightbox.
