Tribeca Film has taken all US rights to Felix van Groeningen’s The Broken Circle Breakdown following its US premiere at Tribeca last month and will release the film later this year.

Carl Joos and van Groeningen wrote the screenplay to the bluegrass-infused relationship story, which garnered the best screenplay award for a narrative feature film at Tribeca as well as the best lead actress in a narrative feature film prize for Veerle Baetens. It also won the Panorama Audience Award at the Berlinale in February.

Dirk Impens produced The Broken Circle Breakdown and the film opened in Belgium last autumn, where van Groeningen is familiar to audiences through his 2009 comedy drama The Misfortunates.

Tribeca Film negotiated the deal with The Match Factory.

  • Cinipix, backed by Wall Street financiers Howard Silverman and Neil Grossman, has taken US rights to Franklin Martin’s sports documentary Long Shot: The Kevin Laue Story and will release in theatres in autumn.
