Abdulaziz Al-Khater to leave after two years in the role.

Abdulaziz Al-Khater, CEO of the Doha Fim Institute (DFI), is to step down from his role and leave the organisation.

According to a statement from the DFI, Fatma Al-Remaihi will assume his duties as acting CEO in addition to her current position as director of programmes and director of the Ajyal Youth Film Festival.

The statement said: “We would like to thank Abdulaziz for his hard work and many contributions to DFI over the past two years and wish him all the best with his future endeavors.”

Confirmation of a new CEO will be announced in due course.

Since joining in 2012, Al-Khater steered the overall strategy and direction of the DFI, playing a key role in expanding the Institute’s mandate and restructuring its operations.

He led various initiatives to nurture and grow the local and regional film industries as well as strengthen major partnerships with the worldwide film community and the international expansion of the Institute’s Grants Programme.

Al-Khater was also instrumental in redefining the film festival platform of the Institute, and led the launch of the Ajyal Youth Film Festival and the Qumra Doha Film Festival, which aim to position Qatar as a cultural incubator for the region and beyond.

Under his leadership, the Institute also formed strategic alliances with cultural organisations including the Sarajevo and Giffoni Film Festivals, and entered into a development and production partnership with Participant Media.

He previously held senior positions at Al Khaliji Commercial Bank, the International Bank of Qatar and HSBC.
