Megan Ellison and Annapurna will finance the Charlize Theron starring vehicle and produce Sympathy For Lady Vengeance alongside Theron’s Denver & Delilah Films and CJ Entertainment. Panorama Media will handle international sales.

Theron will star in the project, based on William Monahan’s upcoming adaptation of Park Chan-wook’s classic South Korean revenge story. A director has not been set.

Producers are Theron, Denver & Delilah partner Beth Kono, Annapurna’s Ellison and Chelsea Barnard, CJ Entertainment’s Ted Kim and Monahan.

Justine Suzanne Jones of Monahan’s Henceforth Pictures, AJ Dix of Denver & Delilah, Ted Schipper of Annapurna and Miky Lee of CJ Entertainment will serve as executive producers.

“This will be very American – and very unexpected,” said Monahan. “Park is a genius; it’s the Everest of adaptations and I’ve got blood in my teeth to do it.”

Lady Vengeance recounts the story of a woman who orchestrates a plan to punish a killer after she completes a prison term for a crime she did not commit.
