Other films to secure multiple nominations include Nebraska, Captain Phillips, Gravity, Her, Philomena and Inside Llewyn Davis.

The nominations for the 71st Golden Globe Awards were announced today at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles and both 12 Years A Slave and American Hustle led the pack with seven nods each. However there was a shut-out for Lee Daniels’ The Butler and Saving Mr. Banks was largely ignored.

12 Years a Slave received nods for director Steve McQueen, lead actor Chiwetel Ejiofor, supporting actor Michael Fassbender, supporting actress Lupita Nyong’o and for best drama, screenplay and score.

American Hustle secured nominations for director David O Russell, actor Christian Bale, actress Amy Adams, supporting actor Bradley Cooper, supporting actress Jennifer Lawrence, best comedy/musical and best screenplay.

Nebraska drew five nominations for director Alexander Payne, best comedy/musical, actor Bruce Dern, supporting actress June Squibb and best screenplay.

Paul Greengrass’ hijack drama Captain Phillips and Alfonso Cuaron’s space thriller Gravity each secured four nods.

Spike Jonze’s Her, Stephen Frears Philomena and the Coens Inside Llewyn Davis each received three nominations.

However, after receiving three nominations for the Screen Actors Guild Awards yesterday, Lee Daniels’ The Butler was snubbed. In perhaps even more of a shock, Disney’s Saving Mr. Banks was largely ignored by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, earning a sole dramatic actress nod for Emma Thompson.

The 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards are set to be hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler on Jan 12, 2014.
