The MA in Film Curating will be a year-long course under the direction of journalist/academic Nick Roddick.

Interdisciplinary arts educational collaboration The London Consortium and graduate school The London Film School are working together to launch the world’s first postgraduate degree in film curating.

The MA in Film Curating will be a year-long course under the direction of journalist/academic Nick Roddick. The first course will be offered starting in October 2010.

Other London Consortium and LFS teaching staff members will also work on the course, and industry and festival professionals will offer their knowledge as well.

In addition to the academic teachings, students will also get hands-on experience curating a series of film events (the first ones will run in the summer of 2011). Topics covered will include film curating, the film industry, film distribution networks (including digital platforms), and film festivals (students will attend Rotterdam and Cannes).

The MA course will become a regular part of the London Consortium/LFS offerings.

LFS chairman (and graduate) Mike Leigh said: “I welcome the imaginative collaboration between the London Consortium and the LFS in creating this exciting new degree. For film-makers, a knowledge and appreciation of world cinema is as important as directing, cinematography or editing; and access to our cinema heritage is equally essential for popular audiences.”
