The UK Film Council, BAFTA and the BFI London Film Festival are hosting an environmental trade fair and discussion on Monday.

Greening the Screen — How To Go Green without Going into the Red is a half-day event being held at BAFTA, to bring together companies and services to advise film businesses and freelancers about how to reduce carbon footprints.

Solutions include energy audits or recycling on film sets and using specialist location managers.

Writer/actor/impersonator Alistair McGowan will kick off the event with a discussion about environmental sustainability for the film business. The speakers on that panel will include BAFTA chief executive Amanda Berry, Working Title co-founder and UKFC chairman Tim Bevan, director of Forum for the Future Jonathon Porritt, Low Carbon Innovation Centre’s Fergus Rolfe, and Dogwoof’s Andy Whittaker.

Bevan said: “Everyone involved in film has an important part to play in helping to make the UK film industry a world leader in environmental good practice. For countless social and economic reasons, improving the sustainability of the UK film industry will give us all a real competitive advantage internationally for years to come.”

The exhibitors at the trade fair will include 10:10, AECOM, Carbon Aware Productions, the Cinema Exhibitors Association, Greenshoot, and law firm Wedlake Bell.
