Mandate Pictures is developing an untitled female road movie comedy from screenwriter Annie Mumolo.

Dana Fox and frequent Mandate collaborator Lorene Scafaria will produce, with Mandate president Nathan Kahane serving as executive produce and Tendo Nagenda overseeing for Mandate.

The story centres on three disillusioned girls who travel to New York to celebrate New Year’s Eve only to be beset by a snowstorm en route.

“I wanted to write a story based on the things my friends and I are experiencing in our thirties that completely took us by surprise,” Mumolo said. “It was important to me that the story really capture the issues and struggles we are going through in a funny and authentic way.”

“Dana and I couldn’t be more excited to be working with this amazing group of people,” Scafaria said. “Annie brings exuberance to her work that’s simply contagious. Mandate has been such a champion of smart, female-driven comedies.”

Mumolo most recently co-wrote a script with Saturday Night Live cast member Kristen Wiig that is set up at Universal with Judd Apatow set to produce.

Mandate is currently developing the romantic comedy Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World, which is based on a screenplay by Scafaria, who will also produce and for the first time direct. She previously teamed up with mandate as the screenwriter on Nick And Norah’s Infinite Playlist.

Fox wrote the screenplays for The Wedding Date and What Happens In Vegas. She co-wrote the upcoming Couples Retreat with Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau, and also served in a producing capacity on the film. Fox is currently rewriting Bobbie Sue for Warner Brothers with Cameron Diaz attached.

Rob McEntegart, Mandate’s head of business affairs, negotiated the deals for the company.
